So... I am finally getting around to telling the story of how Micah came into the world. I will try to make this the condensed version.
On Friday June 27 I had an appointment with my ob and I was 2 1/2 cm dilated. As we drove home we drove through the most intense storm ever. It had 80 mph winds and knocked down countless fences, ripped off pieces of roofs, left piles of hail everywhere, and thinned everyone's trees. At home Nathan continued to replace our kitchen floor that was ruined earlier that week by our fridge breaking. I had cramping feelings since 5 pm but thought it was probably just from my exam.
That night I couldn't get any sleep as contractions were about every five minutes. We decided to go to the hospital and arrived at 5 am on Saturday morning. I was only 3 cm. They had me walk for a bit and gave me an iv as I was very nauseous. After five hours I was no farther along and was discharged. At home I tried to rest and waited for the false labor to go away.
My "false labor" continued all day long and I never got any sleep. Around 7:30 pm on Saturday the contractions became more intense and longer. We decided to head back to the hospital and arrived at 11:30 pm. I was 5 cm and they admitted me. Around 1 am Nathan decided to take a nap as he was nodding off while trying to sit with me. I on the other hand was going on two days with no sleep and feeling exhausted. By 2:30 am on Sunday I decided I needed something to allow me to sleep because I just didn't see how I could make it without any rest. After 3 am (34 hours into labor) I got an epidural and was finally able to get some sleep.
At 6 am they checked me again and I was only 6 cm! 6 hours and only 1 cm. They decided to start pitocin and rupture my membranes. By 10:45 am on Sunday I was fully dilated and ready to push. (Which is when Nathan took that wonderful picture of me and posted it on here when I couldn't possibly do anything about it. Oh well... you've all seen it now.) I pushed for an hour and the doctor checked and said there was no progress made and that she would check back in an hour. At 12:45 there was still no progress and it was determined that he would not fit through my pelvis. (I was told a few months ago that I have an android pelvis which is not necessarily conducive to childbirth.) I was to have a c-section.
Things happened very quickly and by 1:36 pm on Sunday, June 29th Micah made his entrance. About 45 hours of labor. Wow. Never thought things would have gone as they did but it was all worth it. Surprisingly I'm not all depressed about not getting the birth I wanted. A c-section was the last thing on earth I wanted but that's what was needed. I only wish I could have seen him be born and I didn't get to see Nathan hold him for the first time. But he's here.
That's the story of Micah's very long journey into our lives. More photos to come soon.
